Evgeny Kuznetzov hits a new low in Russia: Placed on waivers
Last summer, we saw Evgeny Kuznetsov return to the KHL, and despite rumours of an NHL return, he's back in Russia, but now at an all-time low after being waived.
The career of Evgeny Kuznetsov has been quite the incredible one, as he had a long, impressive stint with the Washington Capitals in the NHL, playing a key role in their lone Stanley Cup back in 2018.
However, his career in the NHL potentially came to an end following the 2023/24 season, as he joined SKA St. Petersburg in the KHL for the 2024/25 campaign, before many expected a return to the NHL.
Evgeny Kuznetsov's career hits another low in the KHL
Despite being just 33-years of age, there just wasn't enough interest from the NHL this past summer, as Kuznetsov would find a new home with Magnitogorsk Metallurg for this season.
In 15 games, the veteran has tallied 1 goal and 9 points to go along with a +0 differential, but that clearly hasn't been enough, as his new team have now officially placed him on waivers, with the KHL's official social media now asking what's next for Kuzy.
There are plenty of options out there, as he produced well a season ago in the KHL, putting up 12 goals and 37 points in 39 games played, but that wasn't enough to keep him with his team either.
Ultimately, it's unclear if something behind the scenes is holding him back, as Kuznetsov is producing well on the ice, but given this latest development, his future in professional hockey is now very, very unclear.
