Oilers will likely be forced to trade $7.3 million winger for nothing per new report
Things between the Edmonton Oilers and Andrew Mangiapane don't appear to be working out, and they could soon be forced to trade him for nothing per a new report.
The Edmonton Oilers, who have lost two straight appearance in the Stanley Cup Final, parted ways with several forwards during the summer, including Corey Perry, Connor Brown, Jeff Skinner and Viktor Arvidsson
One player they signed as a UFA was former Calgary Flames forward Andrew Mangiapane, who played last year with the Washington Capitals.
But things have not worked out between the two sides, and reports have emerged that he's even been given permission to seek a trade after recently being made a healthy scratch.
Per a new report from NHL analyst Frank Seravalli, the Oilers could soon be moving on from the ex-Flame.
I don't know that the Oilers would have to retain money at this point, but what you can do is cross off any return. And for the Oilers, the point should be to try and move on from the contract and the fit. It hasn't worked to this point.
Mangiapane is looking for more opportunity elsewhere, and the Oilers have been real open and honest with guys that have given them a chance. 'Hey, come here. Play. See what it's like, see how the fit is, and then if it doesn't work out, we'll try and find a way to move you.' - Frank Seravalli

Andrew Mangiapane Is Playing In His First Year With The Oilers
Mangiapane was taken by the divisional foe Flames with the 166th overall pick in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, and he would play the first several years of his career in a Flames sweater, including the first Battle of Alberta playoff series in decades in 2022.
He was then traded to the Washington Capitals in June of 2024, and then signed the two year contract with the Oilers on the opening day of free agency.
He has 254 points (128G, 126A) in 538 career games with the Flames, Capitals and Oilers.
