Former third overall pick linked to one specific Canadian team by analysts
Jesperi Kotkaniemi hasn't lived up to the hype in the NHL, but now, the Winnipeg Jets may be a team that's ready to take a chance on the former top-3 draft pick.
The Winnipeg Jets entered 2025/26 on the back of a No. 1 seed in the Western Conference a year ago, but unfortunately, once again, the team failed to capitalize most when it mattered in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Shockingly, they've completely fallen apart this season due to injuries and inconsistencies, with the team now sitting at 15-20-4 on the season, ranking them dead last in the entire National Hockey League.
Winnipeg Jets linked to former No. 3 overall pick
That's come as a major shock to everyone in Winnipeg, and with the team believing they've still got the talent to compete, they're now eyeing up some potential moves ahead of the trade deadline.
According to Elliotte Friedman on the latest episode of 32 Thoughts, Jesperi Kotkaniemi is one player they could have their eyes on, with the Jets potentially looking to buy low on the former No. 3 overall pick that hasn't quite worked out in either Montreal or Carolina thus far.
This season, things are getting worse for Kotkaniemi, as he has just 2 goals and 6 points across 24 games, and after being offered in deals for Phillip Danault and Quinn Hughes unsuccessfully, the 'Canes are clearly trying anything they can to offload him.
If the Jets do look to move one of their veterans, landing a 25-year old with untapped potential would not be a bad move for Winnipeg, but with still many months to go in the season, they may look to turn things around before hitting the panic button and making a move.
