Blue Jackets head coach Dean Evason refuses to answer question about trade with Penguins this week
The Blue Jackets recently dealt Yegor Chinakhov, but now, Head Coach Dean Evason refuses to answer questions about the former Jackets winger.
This off-season was a quiet one for the Columbus Blue Jackets, with the biggest story of all revolving around former first-round pick Yegor Chinakhov, who went back to his home country and reportedly requested a trade.
He began the season in Columbus however, but recently, the Pittsburgh Penguins gave the Blue Jackets a major offer, giving up a second and a third round draft pick to acquire the young winger.
Dean Evason refuses to address Yegor Chinakhov deal
Clearly, Chinakhov and his trade request frustrated some in Columbus, as did his play, as he struggled to take a leap forward after flashing potential for the Blue Jackets in recent years.
That frustration came out a little when Dean Evason was asked about the trade, as the Blue Jackets Head Coach refused to address his former player, wanting to move on just days after the deal took place.
He's not our player anymore. Listen, as coaches we try to get the best out of every one of our players. I'm sure there's potential. There's expectations from you guys, obviously from us, from management... you just try your best. It's our job to try get the best out of every player, push buttons or whatever phrase you want to use. That's what we do every night or every year. But to answer the question about an individual who's not on our team, I'm not going to do it. - Dean Evason
Whether this was frustration or simply Evason just wanting to move on from his former player, it doesn't paint Chinakhov in a great light, and now, we'll see if he can become the player that Columbus had hoped he would become with his new team.
