Auston Matthews, William Nylander Address Locker Room Controversy Involving Anthony Stolarz
There was controversy after the Toronto Maple Leafs lost 4-3 in OT to the Seattle Kraken, as goalie Anthony Stolarz was peeved after the lack of response by his teammates after he was run into by Kraken forward Mason Marchment during the 2nd period.
Stolarz said he was going
to defend himself when opponents try and take a run at him:
I'm not happy. Guys are gonna run me and I'm gonna try to stand up for myself. - Anthony Stolarz
He also said that he spoke to teammate
William Nylander, who took no issue with what his goalie had to say.
:It's all good. Look, we're teammates. He's a great guy. There's nothing that we need to, you know, talk about here. Yeah, he talked to me after and it's all good. It's been no issue since. - William Nylander
Auston Matthews agreed with Nylander and said that he and the team need to be better as a whole.
We're a veteran group. We're all big boys. You don't need to beat around the bush. It's an easy conversation we all had and you just move on, close the door. We gotta be better and we will be. - Auston Matthews
Anthony Stolarz Re-Signed With the Maple Leafs
Stolarz, who is in his 2nd year with the Maple Leafs, made sure that he was going to stick around longer than his current contract.
He was recently signed to a new 4 year contract with an AAV (average annual value) of $3.75 million to remain with the Maple Leafs, who he helped last year to the team's 2nd postseason win since 2004 over the divisional foe Ottawa Senators.
So far this year, Stolarz is 2-2-1 with a 2.79 GAA and .897 SV%.
