Anthony Stolarz was forced to stand up for himself in Toronto's latest game, and now veteran Brandon Carlo has had to face the media after failing to support him.

The Toronto Maple Leafs played and lost to the Seattle Kraken in a tight game over the weekend, with Josh Mahura netting his first goal of the season to pick up the 4-3 overtime victory.
However, the defining moment of the game is when goaltender Anthony Stolarz was run over by Mason Marchment, with no one else standing up for the veteran goaltender, meaning he had to do so himself.

Stolarz Calls Out the Maple Leafs; Brandon Carlo Defends His Actions

In this situation, normally players would jump on the player that went after their goaltender, but after the game, Stolarz called out the entire team after no one but himself did anything to retaliate to Marchment.
Now, Brandon Carlo has fronted the media, and instead of owning up to not defending his goaltender, he has instead defended his decision, stating that the powerplay is more important than protecting his net minder.
As I saw the referee call the penalty, you don't want to do too much to retaliate. But yeah, there's a certain extent, once you see Stolie get up and be angry too, you want to try and give him a shot. But overall, you want to go on the power play as well. So it's a weird area to be in. But overall, I think the power play is a useful thing in that situation.
It's clearly not all on Carlo, but this is an example of why this team struggles in the post-season, as they can't win the physicality game and seemingly refuse to engage in it sometimes, and while this may spark them, the reaction certainly isn't what fans were hoping for.
