Insider predicts Steven Stamkos will remain with Tampa Bay Lightning
Contrary to recent rumors linking Steven Stamkos to the Montreal Canadiens, Sportsnet journalist Eric Engels predicts Stamkos will stay with the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Eric Engels recently addressed the speculation surrounding Steven Stamkos potentially joining the Montreal Canadiens. In his latest article, Engels refutes the rumors and provides insight into Stamkos' likely future.
"Is Stamkos a realistic option for the Habs? And how important would the connection with St-Louis be for Stamkos?"
"Not really.
But I don't think he will be a realistic option for any team, except for the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Stamkos wants to retire as a member of this team and they want to give him a chance to do so. I still think that's the only realistic scenario for now.
But if the relationship were to break down between Stamkos and the Lightning, I would say the connection with Martin St-Louis would be one of the only things that could make Stamkos consider signing in Montreal."
Engels asserts that while the Canadiens might have an interest in signing Steven Stamkos, the likelihood of this happening is low. According to Engels, Stamkos remains committed to finishing his career with the Tampa Bay Lightning, and the team shares this sentiment.
Steven Stamkos, 34, was the first overall pick in the 2008 NHL Draft and continues to perform at an elite level. This season, he recorded an impressive 81 points in 79 games, including 40 goals. Despite his age, Stamkos remains one of the top players in the world and maintains a strong passion for hockey.
