The Sharks and Tyler Toffoli took on the Flames last night, and one errant play during the game had the San Jose player call himself out to the media.
The Calgary Flames kept their playoff hopes alive as they defeated the San Jose Sharks 5-2 on Sunday at Scotiabank Saddledome. Yegor Sharangovich scored twice to guide the Flames closer in the tight Western Conference wild-card race.
Adam Klapka chipped in with a goal and an assist, and Matthew Coronato and MacKenzie Weegar found the net for the Flames, who have now strung together points in six straight games (4-0-2).
Dustin Wolf made 28 saves, keeping playoff hopes alive in Calgary. Tyler Toffoli scored his season-best 30th goal and assisted on another to let the Sharks drop to 0-7-2 on their ninth straight loss.
Toffoli said the Sharks made "stupid" mistakes all year
Toffoli readily admitted making a "stupid" mistake in an interview after the game, one that blew an opportunity for them, and owned up to it afterwards.
"I think honestly, looking back, we've been in so many games this year and blown so many leads in stupid ways," Toffoli said. "I think if everyone reflects in the right way going into the summer and comes into training camp next year, it can be a completely different season."
Sharangovich's second came with six minutes remaining in the game in the third period, putting Calgary up 3-2 on a snapshot wrist shot from the slot.
Coronato added an insurance marker at 10:55, tucking in a centering pass from Mikael Backlund, and Sharangovich finished off the game with an empty-netter in the final minutes.
The victory maintains Calgary's chances of making the playoffs alive, adding yet more pressure to their upcoming games.
