Pittsburgh Penguins emerge as favourite to land Toronto's Mitch Marner
The Pittsburgh Penguins failed to make the playoffs for the second year in a row in 2023-24, and now they may look to shake things up big this summer.
After another disappearing act in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, rumours have swirled around Mitch Marner and his future with the Toronto Maple Leafs, with him becoming the most likely of the core four to be moved this summer. Despite losing less than a week ago, favourites are already emerging to land No. 16, and it appears his former General Manager Kyle Dubas is leading the way.
«A full deal for the Penguins to acquire Marner would include many extra pieces. Several prospects and draft picks would be involved, but the meat of the deal would center around big names and big contracts.»
According to The Hockey News, Pittsburgh are the current favorites to land Marner, as they look to add some firepower to their core forward group, led by Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin. It didn't take long, but we've already seen mock trades that would accomplish this very thing, landing the Maple Leafs help on the blue line and moving off Marner;
Fans of both teams seem to be on board with the move, as any potential deal could work as a major victory for both teams as they look to fight for the Stanley Cup in the Eastern Conference.
Mitch Marner, I can't wait to see you in a Pittsburgh jersey in October
Ultimately, it's unclear at this point if Marner would waive his NMC for a move to Pittsburgh, or whether Toronto have any interest in asking him too, but if it comes to that, keep a close eye on Kyle Dubas.
