Sidney Crosby has been the face of the Penguins for a long, long time, and now his star teammate has weighed in on his future in Pittsburgh.
The Pittsburgh Penguins have been on a downward spiral in recent years, but with franchise icon Sidney Crosby still at the helm, there is a belief that this team can turn it around and make a Stanley Cup push. However, No. 87 is set to hit free agency soon, and his future in the NHL has been discussed by many, with teammate Evgeni Malkin now weighing in on it.
"Pittsburgh is Crosby. Crosby is Pittsburgh. No one in Pittsburgh would understand if he changed teams. Although anything can happen, sometimes things happen that have a one percent chance of happening. But before signing my current contract, we talked. And he hold me that the Penguins are us: me, him and (Kris) Letang. I signed my contract. He will probably make the same decision."
It comes as no surprise that Malkin believes Crosby will remain a Penguin, especially given their discussions when No. 71 was a free agent, and whether or not that's good for the future of the team, Crosby's future clearly remains with Pittsburgh. At 36-years of age, Crosby had an incredible campaign in 2023/24, tallying an impressive 94 points and almost single handedly leading the team to the Stanley Cup Playoffs, so whether it's in Pittsburgh or elsewhere, expect him to get paid in a big way.
