IIHF hands out massive suspension to Flyers goaltender Ivan Fedotov
The Philadelphia Flyers have had an odd series of events with their goalies this season. Now Ivan Fedotov has been suspended three years by the IIHF, but its not his fault.
Fedotov was recently involved in some shenanigans regarding his KHL club, CSKA Moscow. The goaltender was supposed to come over to North America last season, but the Russian club prevented him from doing so, effectively holding him hostage in Russia. As a result, the IIHF has cracked down on the league.

What impact will that have, if any, as #LetsGoFlyers would love to get their hands on top prospect Matvei Michkov? The IIHF, or International Ice Hockey Federation, is the international governing body of hockey. They run events including the World Junior Championships and the Hlinka Gretzky Cup. As a result, they have the ability to suspend players for international events. In this case, they have elected to suspend Fedotov for three years, meaning he will not be eligible to play for Russia in international events for the foreseeable future.
The IIHF levied sanctions against goaltender Ivan Fedotov, CSKA Moscow, & Russian Federation today.
Fedotov is suspended from playing in any international competition for 3 years.
The IIHF has ruled playing in the KHL this season violated his NHL contract with the Flyers.
The Flyers likely won't mind this result, as it means there will be no distractions for their goalie, who could potentially take over the starter's role next season. However, it does feel a bit unfair that Fedotov is the one who gets punished out of all of this.
