Jett Luchanko didn't stand out in his time with Philadelphia this season, and now, he's headed back to the OHL's Guelph Storm after a major demotion.
The Philadelphia Flyers surprised the NHL world when they selected Jett Luchanko with the No. 13 overall pick in the 2024 NHL Draft, with the team seemingly reaching on the talented forward.
Last season, he made an early push to make the Flyers roster, but after being held scoreless in four games, he was sent back to the OHL where he dominated with the Guelph Storm, posting 21 goals and 56 points in 46 games played.
Jett Luchanko Once Again Demoted To The OHL
Now, after going scoreless in four games this year, he's suffered the same fate, with the team now announcing that the 19-year old is
headed back to the Storm for the upcoming OHL campaign.
While some may see this as a demotion, Luchanko clearly hasn't been able to stand out in the NHL yet, and given that the Flyers are set down the middle, getting significant time in the OHL is a much better move than playing him on the fourth line for the rest of the NHL season.
At 19-years of age, the 5-foot-11, 180 pound forward has flashed immense potential, but as of right now, he simply hasn't produced in the NHL, and sending him back to the OHL is simply the best move for his development.
Ultimately, Luchanko is expected to be a huge piece of the Flyers organization moving forward, but as of right now, he simply hasn't taken the major leap that some were hoping for, but with time on his side, expect this move to help him as he looks to become the best possible hockey player for the Flyers.
