The CCHA suspended Lake Superior State freshman Raoul Boilard four games for a check from behind that sent Minnesota State's Sam Court to the hospital.
The hit happened Oct. 31 during Lake Superior State's game against Minnesota State.
Late in the second period, Boilard checked Court from behind and the Mavericks junior defenseman fell into the boards.
Court was taken to a hospital, and as of Wednesday afternoon he still had not been released.
Boilard is eligible to return Dec. 4.
The league said it is serious about removing reckless hits from the game and that player safety comes first.

What we know about Court
Court is a 22-year-old from Winnipeg who spent the last two seasons at Arizona State before moving to Minnesota State.
He has three goals and an assist through eight games this season.
His family has not shared any details about his condition, so there is no update on the injury beyond the hospital stay.
One Minnesota State fan account weighed in.
It backed the suspension but said it wanted at least six games, and asked the NCAA to step in with further action.
The post also wished Court a speedy and full recovery.
Who is Raoul Boilard
Boilard is a freshman forward and a Quebec native.
The New York Rangers took him in the fourth round of the 2024 NHL Draft, and he played for Cape Breton in the QMJHL before arriving at Lake Superior State.
Four games is the league's answer. Court's road is a lot longer, and nobody outside his family knows how long yet.
Until the family decides to share more, all anyone in the college hockey world can do is wait and hope for good news.
