Expensive Rangers defenseman reportedly being traded to Islanders

This season hasn't been a good one for the New York Rangers, and despite coming into the season with very high expectations, they appear ready to make some moves to this roster following their struggles.

Recently, captain J.T. Miller opened up on the team's poor performance, and given the body language of their captain and the entire team, it's seemingly a matter of when, not if the trades begin.

Many believe the likes of Alexis Lafreniere or Artemi Panarin could be moved this season, but on Monday, reporter Vince Mercogliano reported that the first move is set to be a smaller one.

According to Mercogliano, the Rangers are putting together the framework of a deal that would send hulking defenseman Carson Soucy to a Metropolitan Division rival in the form of the New York Islanders.

While Soucy isn't a big name, this would likely be the first of many trades as the Rangers move towards their re-tool, and with Panarin likely on the way out as well, there's no telling how many moves this team is ready to make.

This season, the 31-year old Soucy has posted 3 goals and 8 points in 46 games played, and despite the teams overall struggles, he has a solid +4 differential, showing how consistent he is on the ice.

Only time will tell if this deal goes through, but given how public the Rangers struggles have been, this is likely going to be the first of many if it gets done, and if that is the case, this is a team that could look very different in the months ahead.
