Per a new report from NHL analyst Darren Dreger, the New York Rangers and star forward Artemi Panarin could be heading for a split in the near future.

Nothing is going right for the New York Rangers right now, who have sunk to the bottom of their division standings after their latest embarrassing loss on home ice, this time an 8-4 final to the Ottawa Senators.
There could be big changes coming to the Rangers before long if they don't turn things around, and there is plenty of smoke surrounding the future of star forward Artemi Panarin with the team.
Panarin, who is in the last year of his seven year contract he signed with the team in 2019 as a UFA, could reportedly be changing destinations before too long per a report from NHL analyst Darren Dreger.
Darren Dreger: There's been some speculation and talk that the Artemi Panarin camp has historically engaged in what an extension might look like with the Rangers, and the belief is it doesn't look good from Panarin's perspective - Early Trading (1/15)
Today, the Rangers have since confirmed that Panarin will not be offered an extension.
So far this year, Panarin has 51 points (16G, 35A) in 47 games.

Artemi Panarin Is Reportedly Okay With Whatever Transpires

Per a report from Rangers analyst Colin Stepehenson, Panarin is "okay with whatever happens", which casts an immediate cloud around his future with the team.
He told me he's OK with whatever happens. He got off to a slow start and admitted that a couple factors played into that. Number one: he was injured in training camp and did not play in a preseason game. But he also was worried thinking too much about other things, meaning the contract negotiations, Stephenson explained.

But then he said he got over it. He's past that.

So, I looked in his eye and feel like he's fine with leaving. But obviously he has a full no-move [clause], so he has control over it. So, if you're sending him somewhere he wants to go, I think he's OK with it. - Colin Stepehenson
If the Rangers trade Panarin, it would mean a major shift in direction for the team.
