New Jersey Devils release official statement on Jack Hughes after off-ice 'freak accident'
The Devils have released a statement after the freak accident that injured top forward Jack Hughes during a team dinner in Chicago, causing him to need surgery.
The New Jersey Devils are going to be without forward Jack Hughes for an indefinite period of time after he was injured in a
freak accident during a team dinner.
Hughes reportedly cut himself accidentally and has since undergone successful surgery on his finger.
Per the latest statement from the Devils, Hughes is going to be unavailable for at least the next eight weeks and is going to be re-evaluated in six weeks.

The procedure was performed by Dr. Robert Hotchkiss at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City. The expected return to play timeline is eight weeks and he will be re-evaluated at the six-week mark.
So far this year, Hughes had 20 points (10G, 10A) in 17 games.
At 12-4-1, the Devils have the best record in the Metropolitan Division and Hughes' absence will not be good for them.
This Is The Latest Injury For Devils Forward Jack Hughes
Unfortunately for Hughes, this is only the latest injury that he's experienced in his career since he was taken with the first overall pick in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft.
He's suffered several upper-body injuries, including one in March of last year after he got tangled up with 4 Nations Faceoff American teammate
Jack Eichel that ended his season.
Hughes has been limited to 62 games each in 2023-24 and 2024-25. The highest number of games he's ever played in was 78 in 2022-23.
