Luke Hughes contract negotiations have stalled, and now, with the season around the corner, Devils fans are seemingly starting to lose their patience.
The New Jersey Devils have had a rather quiet off-season, with many expecting that the organization would make at least one move to build on the success that they had in 2024/25 before injuries hampered their Stanley Cup Playoffs push.
Perhaps the thing holding up any other deals is the situation involving Luke Hughes, with the current RFA in the midst of contract negotiations with his team after a career year last season.
Devils fans frustrated after latest update
In his latest with
The Athletic, Pierre LeBrun has opened up on the ongoing situation with Hughes, noting that money is the driving factor behind the two sides being unable to get a deal done.
There have been some positive signs however, as the two sides remain in communication, as well as being in sync on the two parties wanting to get a long-term deal done, rather than a bridge we've seen handed out to some RFA's this off-season.
With the season just a matter of weeks away, it's no surprise that Devils fans are starting to get worried over the future of their star defenseman, who many believe is going to take a permanent step up into the top-four this season, especially if the team invest in him long-term with a major extension.
Given that his brother Jack is the centrepiece of the Devils organization, the belief is that both parties will find some common ground and get a deal done some time soon, but for now, every day that passes without an extension is no doubt worrying for Devils fans.
