A worrying scene unfolded recently during a London Knights game, as the glass behind the bench shattered and landed on head coach Dale Hunter.
It's not often that a pane of glass during a hockey game shatters, but it's happened on occasion. But what occurred recently during a London Knights game may be a first timer.
The glass behind the bench of the OHL's Knights shattered and landed on head coach Dale Hunter and several players.
The Knights were taking on the Windsor Spitfires, and after a Spitfires goal, fans at the WFCU Centre pounded on the glass in celebration, resulting in the glass shattering in a completely unexpected fashion.
Thankfully, everyone on the bench, including Hunter, escaped without being seriously injured.
Spitfires head coach Greg Walters expressed relief that the situation wasn't worse than it could have been.
I talked to one of the London guys and Dale's OK, thank God. I guess he just took a little cut (to his hand), but that was ugly and you never want to see that.
The game was delayed while a new pane of glass was installed; the Spitfires won 4-1.
A pane of glass once landed on Bruins forward David Krejci
During a similar incident, a full pane of glass at TD Garden became dislodged and landed on Boston Bruins forward David Krejci following a 2012 postseason game against the Washington Capitals.
Krejci also thankfully escaped without serious injury, while the glass somehow remained intact during the entire incident.
