The New Jersey Devils announced that forward Jack Hughes, who was hurt in a freak accident during a team dinner in Chicago, is ready to return after having undergone surgery and missing several weeks.
It's been over a month since New Jersey Devils forward and assistant captain Jack Hughes was able to play, but the good news for the Devils is that he's ready to return to the ice.
The Devils announced that they've officially activated Hughes off Injured Reserve, and Hughes himself said that he expects to be in the lineup when the Devils play the Buffalo Sabres later today.
Hughes was hurt on November 12 during a team dinner in Chicago, somehow cutting his finger in what the team later described as a "freak accident". There was natural concern about whether it was careless behavior on Hughes' part that contributed to the incident, but the Devils would make it clear they were satisfied with the explanation.
So far this year, Hughes has 20 points (10G, 10A) in 17 games played before his untimely injury.
Jack Hughes Is Ready To Return For The Devils
Hughes' return will be a welcome sight for the Devils, who are third overall in total man games lost to injury this year.
Not long after his injury, head coach Sheldon Keefe said that Hughes was already back on the ice, albeit without a stick or pucks.
He's been skating now for about a week or so. No stick or puck at this point, but he's been out on the ice, he was out there today. He's on schedule if that makes any sense. But he's far enough away that they don't tell me how he's doing. I just know what he's up to. - Sheldon Keefe
The Devils are also welcoming back Timo Meier to the lineup, as he was absent to tend to a family heath matter.
