Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby needed stitches after he was accidentally high-sticked by his new teammate Brett Kulak, who was acquired last week from the Oilers as part of the Stuart Skinner/Tristan Jarry trade.
Nothing went right for the Pittsburgh Penguins tonight against the Montreal Canadiens, who dealt them their eighth straight loss, 4-0 at Bell Centre.
Adding insult to injury during the game was captain Sidney Crosby, who had the chance to tie Mario Lemieux in total points in franchise history in the iconic Hall of Famer's home province, requiring stitches after being accidentally high-sticked by his new teammate Brett Kulak.
Kulak was acquired by the Penguins last Friday from the Edmonton Oilers along with goaltender Stuart Skinner in the blockbuster trade that sent Tristan Jarry and Sam Poulin to northern Alberta.
Sidney Crosby's Future In Pittsburgh Will Once Again Be The Subject Of Rumours If The Penguins Continue Losing
Right now, the Penguins haven't made the playoffs for three years running, which is the longest drought in the career of Crosby and his longtime teammates Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang.
The Penguins managed to get off to a much better start to this season under new head coach Dan Muse than anyone would have expected, but they have fallen back down to Earth in a major way in recent weeks.
The Penguins lost six straight games at home, which is now the worst homestand in franchise history.
Crosby, who has another year left on his deal beyond this one, will once again likely be the subject of trade rumours if the Penguins find themselves outside of a playoff berth later this season.
Coincidentally, one of the teams he's been linked to in a potential deal is the Canadiens, the team Pittsburgh just played and the same team that Crosby grew up cheering for as a child.
