Montreal Canadiens head coach Martin St. Louis could be facing punishment from the NHL for his angry outburst at the referees during Tuesday's game against the Minnesota Wild on home ice at Bell Centre.
During last night's game between the Montreal Canadiens and the Minnesota Wild, defenseman Lane Hutson was whistled for a penalty that never should have been called.
Replays showed that Marcus Foligno simply lost his footing near the blue line where Hutson was, and that the second year Habs defenseman never should have been called for the penalty.
Canadiens head coach Martin St. Louis went bonkers on the bench in frustration over the penalty that never should have been called:
St. Louis was revealed to have said:
"It's a f***ing joke!!!" Martin St-Louis yells at the officials.
This penalty is a disgrace."
This penalty is a disgrace."
The NHL is known to sometimes fine coaches as much as $25,000 for these types of outbursts.
Referee Eric Furlatt, who called the phantom penalty, was shown going to the penalty box to apologize to Hutson for the call.
Lane Hutson Did Not Seem Terribly Upset After The Game About The Call
Hutson, who won the Calder Trophy as the NHL's best rookie last year, didn't seem overly faded by what never should have been a penalty call.
He said in his postgame session that the referees have a hard job:
I'm never going to be a guy that complains about calls, but they have a hard job. It's tough to see. The game happens fast. Unlucky that it got called. It happens. - Lane Hutson
