This off-season, Lane Hutson was snubbed from Team USA, and after his father made comments on it, the Calder Trophy winner has clapped back at his father.
2024/25 was an incredible season for Lane Hutson, as the Montreal Canadiens rookie took home the Calder Trophy after he put up 6 goals and 66 points in 82 games played for the team, helping lead them back to the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
However, it wasn't enough to get picked for Team USA, as he was not invited to the extended camp that was held ahead of the 2026 Olympic Games, set to take place in February of next season.
Hutson shuts down his fathers suggestions
After the perceived snub,
Hutson's father was interviewed, and while not much was said overall, he did make one suggestion, noting that his boys were also Canadian, and there's a chance they could represent Canada if the United States refused to pick him.
On Monday, Hutson officially addressed the comments for the first time, starting out with a joke and then reaffirming his commitment to the USA, despite revealing how much he loves playing in Canada.
"He gets emotional and sometimes that gets the best of you and you say things you don't mean. It maybe gets taken out of context or whatever, but I'm proud to be American. I love USA Hockey, they've done so much for me.
Also, I love playing in Canada and I'm very fortunate, but I'm a USA Hockey player and that's how it is."
Ultimately, this puts to bed the potential suggestion of Hutson representing Canada at the international level, and while he wasn't picked for Team USA this time, don't be surprised to see him on that stage in the years to come.
