3 Teams Reportedly Have Contract Offer on the Table for Former 1st Overall Pick Erik Johnson

Defenseman Erik Johnson still wants to play in the NHL, and he reportedly has offers from multiple teams to try and make it happen.

The only catch is that he'll have to earn a contract with a professional tryout agreement (PTO).

Per analyst Jesse Montano, Johnson has at least 3 PTO offers that he's considering, but none of them are from the Avalanche.

Johnson was taken with the 1st overall pick by the St. Louis Blues in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. But in February of 2011, he was traded along with Jay McClement and a conditional 1st round pick for Chris Stewart, Kevin Shattenkirk, and a conditional 2nd round pick.

He'd play the next 13 years of his NHL career with the Avalanche, and raised the Stanley Cup following their win over the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 2022 SCF. Since then, he's played for the Buffalo Sabres and Philadelphia Flyers.

He was traded back to the Avalanche at last year's Trade Deadline.

Johnson has 348 points (95G, 253A) in 1,023 career NHL games. At 37, if he earns a contract, it'll likely be his last in the NHL.
