Yegor Chinakhov has been requested to be moved from the Columbus Blue Jackets, but the team hasn't granted the request, and they hope he has a change of heart.
Columbus Blue Jackets forward Yegor Chinakhov, taken with the 20th pick in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft, has reportedly asked to be traded.
Despite the trade request, Chinakov was the first player to return to Columbus earlier this month in preparation for training camp, something that GM Don Waddell believes is a positive sign.
Him being here early it's a very positive sign.
If he stays, we'd have to sit down and make sure everybody's on the same page. Regardless of where he plays, he's going to be a restricted free agent, and I know he wants to stay over here (in North America) and make an NHL salary.
Per analyst David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, the Blue Jackets are hoping that Chinakov has a change of heart.
Yegor Chinakhov has not rescinded his trade request. A trade is not imminent, and the Jackets are hopeful he changes his mind, but they have a solid chip to dangle or package for an upgrade later in the season.
Last year, Chinakov was limited to 30 games and had 15 points (7G, 8A).
Chinakov requested to be traded through his agent in July
In July, Chinakov let it be known he wanted to move on from Columbus through his agent Shumi Babae.
I had some misunderstandings with the coach during the season. Now I would be glad to have a trade. I would like to move to a different location. Will I return to Russia? As long as I can play in the NHL, I will keep developing here.
Before coming to North America, Chinakov played for Avangard Omsk in the KHL.
