Jakub Dobes is not backing down. Martin St. Louis has instilled a culture of accountability in Montreal, and his young goaltender is proving it.
The recent clash between the Canadiens and the New York Islanders took a surprisingly ugly turn.
Chirping is a fundamental part of professional hockey.
Guys will constantly try to get under each other's skin to draw penalties or force mental mistakes.
But there is a hard boundary that simply cannot be crossed during the heat of the action.
Following the final buzzer, Dobes addressed the media regarding the toxic verbal exchanges between the benches.
The Montreal netminder confirmed an Islanders player took things way too far on the ice.
The Unwritten Rules of the NHL
"I heard everything that was going on between the benches. There was something that one player said that shouldn't be said."
He took immediate, calculated action instead of letting his emotions dictate the play.
Dobes skated straight to the officials, demanding they pay closer attention to the verbal garbage.
He explicitly told the referees that this specific language doesn't belong in the game.
This shows massive maturity from the developing goaltender.
He refused to retaliate with a cheap slash or lose his focus in the blue paint.
The league office needs to review the audio feeds and hold the offending player fully accountable.
