Former Montreal Canadiens forward Lukas Vejdemo, who played only 13 games for the team while spending the bulk of his time with the AHL affiliate Laval Rocket, has lost the hearing in his ear after an on-ice injury.
Former
Montreal Canadiens prospect Lukas Vejdemo has suffered a concerning health setback because of an on-ice injury.
He was struck in the ear with a puck during a recent practice with his current Swedish team, and has since not been able to hear anything out of that ear.
Vejdemo, who now plays for Leksands IF in the SHL,
said he's thinking of having the injury surgically fixed.
The puck hit badly on the ear and it rang quite well. It happens so fast that you don't have time to react. I felt directly that it was not good at all.
I hear nothing at all on one ear. Sometimes it heals by itself, other times an operation is required. As I understand it, it's nothing you need to do directly, but you can wait with the operation.
Last year, he had 16 points (7G, 9A) in 48 games.
Lukas Vejdemo was taken in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft
While playing for Djurgardens IF in the SHL, Vejdemo was taken with the 87th pick in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft by the Canadiens.
But he would only play a total of 13 games for the team while spending the majority of his time with the AHL affiliate Laval Rocket. His best output with the Rocket was in 2021-22 when he had 16 points (6G, 10A) in 34 games.
He's also played for Sweden in international competition.
