Canadiens goalie Samuel Montembeault throws defense under the bus with new comments

The Montreal Canadiens have been one of the NHL's best teams throughout the regular season, and with a record of 28-17-7, they find themselves in fourth place in the highly competitive Atlantic Division.

In their last two games however, the Canadiens have gone 0-2 against key divisional rivals, and after allowing four goals in each of those games, questions have once again been raised about their level of play from the goaltending.

When asked about that play, instead of taking responsibility for his poor play all season (3.46 GAA and an .869 save percentage), Samuel Montembeault instead chose to throw his defence under the bus in a recent interview, claiming that there was nothing the goalies could do about some of the goals being scored.

Sure, statistics aren't everything and they definitely don't always tell the story, but to seemingly throw the rest of the team under the bus and try to absolve himself of responsibility isn't the way to secure the No. 1 role or endear yourself to your teammates.

On paper, Montembeault has been outplayed by both Jakub Dobes and Jacob Fowler all season long, but still, Head Coach Martin St. Louis sticks with him as he looks to keep Dobes away from all of the responsibility, but after the struggles and these comments, the clock could be ticking on Montembeault's time in Montreal.
