Lane Hutson has left Martin St-Louis with a hard Game 3 call before Montreal faces Carolina.

This is not just about whether Hutson dresses.
It is about what version of him the Canadiens are getting, and how much St-Louis can ask from a blue-line driver who depends on quick feet, clean turns, and first-touch exits.
Antoine Roussel's read was blunt: Hutson may be available, but not whole.
Carolina's forecheck does not give defenders much room to manage pain.
The concern started after the Taylor Hall sequence, with Hutson slow to recover and Montreal suddenly facing a bigger question than one missed shift.

Montreal's real problem is usage, not availability

Roussel said Hutson likely has bruising and still expects him in uniform tonight, while adding he does not expect him to be at 100%.
"He probably has some bruising, but at this stage of the competition, every player is a little injured; you just have to put that aside."

"I expect him to be there in uniform tonight, but I don't expect him to be at 100%."

- Antoine Roussel
If Hutson plays, St-Louis still has to decide how aggressive his minutes can be, especially on breakouts and late-period defensive-zone starts.
A limited Hutson can still help Montreal move pucks.
But a limited Hutson also gives Carolina a target on every retrieval, every reverse, and every hard rim into his corner.
Game 3 is set for 8 p.m. at the Bell Centre, which turns this into a bench-management story before puck drop.
The Canadiens need his puck movement.
They also cannot pretend dressing him solves the issue if his skating base is compromised.
That is where St-Louis earns his night.
Not by naming Hutson available, but by protecting him enough to keep Montreal's blue line from cracking under Carolina's pace.
