It's looking more and more like the tenure of Montreal Canadiens forward Patrik Laine with the club could soon be coming to a close.
Per a new report from NHL analyst David Pagnotta, the Habs came very close to trading Laine at last week's trade deadline, though they weren't able to make a deal work for whatever reason.

Laine has not played since the middle of October when he underwent core muscle surgery. In the five games that he's played this year, he only had a single assist.
Patrik Laine Joined The Canadiens In 2024 In A Trade From The Blue Jackets
Laine has run into several injury problems with the Canadiens since being acquired in 2024 from the Columbus Blue Jackets.
During a preseason game in 2024, he was hurt from a knee on knee collision with Maple Leafs forward Cedric Pare and missed the first several weeks of the year.
Laine was the second overall pick in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft by the Winnipeg Jets, one pick behind Auston Matthews, who went first overall to the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Laine played several years in Winnipeg before being traded to the Blue Jackets with Jack Roslovic for forward Pierre-Luc Dubois and a third round pick in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft.
In 537 career NHL games with the Jets, Blue Jackets and Canadiens, Laine has 422 points (224G, 198A).
