Mikko Rantanen Shares Heartbreaking Words After Series Win: "They Are My Brothers"
The Dallas Stars eliminated their rivals in seven games, but after the game, Mikko Rantanen was emotional addressing his former teammates.
After a stellar series, the Dallas Stars outlasted the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday night, coming away winners 4-2 in a Game 7 that now sees them advance to take on another division rival in either the Winnipeg Jets or the St. Louis Blues.
This performance was all about Mikko Rantanen, the former Colorado Avalanche star that was traded not once, but twice this season, as he took over the third period, tallying an assist and three goals, finishing it off with the hat-trick to seal the game and the series.
While many would assume he was elated with his performance, it came with the downside of eliminating some of his best friends, who remained on the team he never truly wanted to leave.
They're my brothers... We were enemies in the series... But they're my dear friends off the ice.
While many believe Rantanen was bitter for the way his time in Colorado came to an end, he clearly harbours no resentment to his former teammates, and while he carved them up in the third period, there was plenty of love to go around after the game.
Now, Rantanen will look to focus and get the Stars to their first Stanley Cup Final since 2020 when they fell to the Tampa Bay Lightning, and while it must have been hard to take down his brothers in such a performance, if he can keep that up, there's few teams in the NHL that can stop them.
