Linus Ullmark Disrespected by Team Sweden After Terrible Playoff Performance
Linus Ullmark had a solid campaign in his first season in Ottawa, and while many expected him to represent Sweden, it appears they didn't want him.
Last summer, the Ottawa Senators made a massive splash, landing star goaltender Linus Ullmark from the Boston Bruins, and in his first campaign, he managed to lead them to the Stanley Cup Playoffs, breaking a lengthy eight year drought for the team.
In that time, he posted a 2.70 GAA and a .910 save percentage over 44 games played, and given his veteran experience, he has solidified himself as one of the best goaltenders in the entire NHL.
As a result, it was expected that he would join Team Sweden at the 2025 IIHF World Championships, and reportedly, the 31-year old was interested in the opportunity ahead of the 2026 Olympic Games as well.
However, in a shocking turn of events, he has revealed that the team actually turned down that opportunity, instead opting to go with younger names for the tournament, and it's clear that he wasn't happy with the decision.
"I have the interest, but they've decided not to go with me."
Instead of Ullmark, Sweden will be taking the trio of Arvid Holm,
Arvid Soderblom and
Samuel Ersson, and while Ullmark may be frustrated about the situation, it's clear that they're simply looking to the future to test some young guys, and will likely turn back to the likes of Ullmark,
Filip Gustavsson and
Jacob Markstrom for the Olympic Games.
Regardless of their plan, this certainly isn't a good look, especially with Ullmark making his interest known publicly, but if they can use this chance to get a look at some younger names, it's safe to say that it could pay off in the future.
