Recently Retired NHL Veteran Kyle Okposo Returns to the League in a New Role
After ending his career with a Stanley Cup in 2024, Kyle Okposo is back in the NHL, taking on a surprising new role with the NHL Players Association.
The NHL has seen many steady veterans over the years, and while not all get their rewards, Kyle Okposo did in 2024, as he won the Stanley Cup with the Florida Panthers in his final game in the league.
However, he's been relatively quiet since his career came to an end, and now, we know what he's planning as his next role in hockey, and it may very well be a surprising move.
According to reports, Okposo is beginning a new role with the NHL's Players Association, as he is now working with Marty Walsh and Ron Hainsey to shape the future of the union.
"Being freshly retired, I have relationships with a lot of different players and have some different ideas on how we can create excitement and engagement with the current members of the union.
For me, just having the relationships with those guys and being able to talk to them like we're in a locker room is going to be, I think, an asset to the PA."
According to an official release from the NHLPA, Okposo will be working in business development and as a Player Engagement Advisor, and given the long, storied career he had in the NHL, there's few better people to lead that charge than Okposo.
While most players that leave the NHL will look for a role in a teams front office or as a coach, Okposo has taken a different approach to life after the NHL, and with the future of the NHLPA yet to be shaped, especially with the upcoming CBA, his role could be just as important as any.
