Dallas Stars forward Matt Duchene, who previously played for the Colorado Avalanche, pushed back on a question about his ugly exit from Denver in 2017.

Dallas Stars forward Matt Duchene began his NHL career with the Colorado Avalanche in 2009 after they took him third overall in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, and he was seen as one of their major pieces going forward in their rebuild.
After they drafted Nathan MacKinnon with the first overall pick in 2013, it seemed as though Duchene had a fellow star to work with.
But the two sides split in 2017 when he was traded to the Ottawa Senators in November of that year after initially requesting a trade; he was even pulled from Colorado's game against the Islanders the night of the move.
He's since played for the Columbus Blue Jackets, Nashville Predators and Stars, and helped the Stars beat the Avalanche in last year's thrilling playoffs.
Before their game tonight, Duchene was asked if he regretted how he left the Avalanche now that he has a family.
I think at that point in my career, it was what was best for me, and I think obviously one of the hardest things I'd done. I grew up idolizing that team and when you have to ask your hero for a trade, it's tough, that's a part of my history, playing for that team, I'm super proud of, and it was amazing I got to live that childhood dream. - Matt Duchene

Matt Duchene Started His Career With The Avalanche

Duchene, who was taken with the third overall pick by the Avalanche in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, has also played for the Senators, Blue Jackets, Predators and Stars.
He signed a seven year contract with the Predators in 2019 just months after helping the Blue Jackets win their only two playoff series to date, but would later be bought out of his deal and later signed with the Stars.
So far this year, Duchene has 32 points (13G, 19A) in 42 games played.
