The Columbus Blue Jackets have a talented young roster on the rise, and now they've inked their top line winger to a rich new deal.
For some time now, the Blue Jackets have been expected to sign Kirill Marchenko to an extension, and with their arbitration hearing on the horizon, they avoided that with a new deal announced on Sunday.
Kirill Marchenko has agreed to terms on 3 year $3.850 AAV extension with #CBJ P.S. From Ann Arbor with love, Go Blue! #WeAreGoldStar!
This comes as more fantastic news for Blue Jackets fans, as the team just signed Kent Johnson to a three-year extension, and now they lock up the 24-year old winger to a deal worth $3.85 AAV. In 2023/24 the former second-round pick had a career year, tallying 23 goals and 42 points in 79 games, and is now projected to play on Columbus' top line alongside the star duo of Sean Monahan and Johnny Gaudreau.
That may change with the return of Patrik Laine, but if not, Marchenko has the chance to solidify himself as a genuine force in the NHL, and with the team locking up several young players, the young core that could one day lead them back to the playoffs is growing and developing.
