Montreal Canadiens Nearly Break NHL Record in Undisciplined Game Against Chicago
The Chicago Blackhawks came very close to setting a dismal NHL record on Saturday against the Canadiens by taking a total of 10 penalties.
The
Chicago Blackhawks are now 0-2-1 after falling 3-2 to the Montreal Canadiens at United Center in their home opener on Saturday night, but it was the stunning penalty trouble that they got into that was the story of the night.
The Blackhawks took a total of 10 penalties during the course of the game, coming close to setting a new NHL record.
The Blackhawks are now led by head coach Jeff Blashill, who clearly didn't agree with multiple calls. Cameras caught him smirking at the on-ice referees following one of the penalties, and also caught him calling for a diving penalty against Montreal on another one of his team's infractions.
The Blackhawks fell behind the Canadiens 1-0 and 2-1 after
Cole Caufield and Zack Bolduc both scored, but got goals from
Sam Rinzel and
Connor Bedard. For Bedard, it was his 2nd goal in as many games.
But instead of going to overtime, the Candiens broke the hearts of the Blackhawks and their fans by scoring the GWG with just 15 seconds left in the 3rd period to steal 2 points.
The Canadiens are now 2-1 thanks to their wins over the Blackhawks and the Red Wings on Thursday following their initial loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs earlier in the week to kick off the new season.
