Hurricanes Make Crucial Change Ahead of Do or Die Game Tonight
The Carolina Hurricanes are down 3-0 in the Eastern Conference Finals, and as they look to save the sweep, they'll go back to Fredrik Andersson for Game 4.
Dating back to 2009, the Carolina Hurricanes have lost 15 straight games in the Eastern Conference Finals, and on Monday, they face the possibility of going 16 straight without a win as they aim to fight off a 3-0 series deficit against the defending Stanley Cup Champion Florida Panthers.
In Game 3, the 'Canes turned to
Pyotr Kochetkov to switch things up, but unsurprisingly, it didn't help as he allowed six goals on 28 shots with the team once again being decimated 6-2.
Now, ahead of a must-win Game 4 that the team will need to win if they are to make history, they are making another change, as Rod Brind'Amour announced they are going back to
Frederik Andersen for this one.
When asked to explain the move, Brind'Amour kept it simple, noting that Andersen has been great for them all year, and hopefully with a little extra rest he can help them turn this series around.
"He's been great for us all year. He's had a couple of days off, so it makes sense..."
In 11 games this post-season, Andersen has tallied a 2.01 GAA and a .907 save percentage, but in this series he's allowed nine goals on 36 shots as the Panthers went 2-0 with him in net.
Ultimately though, the Hurricanes need something to spark them, and perhaps Andersen with a game off may just be that spark, but right now, it's safe to say that the odds are against them of even making this a competitive series against the red-hot Panthers.
