Carolina Hurricanes reportedly exploring trade options on the goalie market
NHL insider Pierre LeBrun has revealed that the Carolina Hurricanes are looking into trading for a goalie, listing three specific netminders the team has asked about.
The Hurricanes have been in a tough spot in goal for the past couple of seasons.
The main reason for this has been Freddie Andersen's inability to stay healthy.
Last year, team doctors discovered that he has a rare blood disorder which kept him out for much of the season.
Now the team is active on the trade market according to NHL insider Pierre LeBrun.
Specifically, the team is looking at Utah's
Karel Vejmelka, Ottawa's
Anton Forsberg, and Calgary's Dan Vladar, all netminders who are proven backups or "1b's."
" With Blackwood off the market, other goalies on the Canes' radar include Utah's Karel Vejmelka, the Ottawa Senators' Anton Forsberg, and the Calgary Flames' Dan Vladar - all pending UFAs. But those teams aren't in selling mode yet and some may not be at all depending on how their respective seasons go."
Apparently, the team did not want to pay the price Colorado did to secure the goalie.
"The Carolina Hurricanes were interested in
Mackenzie Blackwood before he got dealt to the Colorado Avalanche last week."
As such, it will be interesting to see what direction the team takes in the coming months.
Will they try to force a move to get help now, or will they roll with Kochetkov and Tokarski until the trade deadline?
Can the team rely on Andersen anymore, even when he returns?
All of these questions and more should be answered in the coming months, so stay tuned.
