Carolina Hurricanes Re-Ignite Rivalry With the Montreal Canadiens by Stealing Talented Prospect
The Carolina Hurricanes pulled of a dastardly move today, stealing one of the Montreal Canadiens prospects.
The Montreal Canadiens and Carolina Hurricanes are not natural rivals but that could be changing right before our very eyes.
The Hurricanes have been a consistent threat in the playoffs, winning eight series since 2019 and appearing in two Eastern Conference finals in that stretch.
Montreal meanwhile has made the playoffs just twice in that time although they did make the Stanley Cup finals in 2021 where they were handily defeated by the Tampa Bay Lightning.
But things are looking up for Montreal now as the club's recent hot streak has them in a playoff position as we enter the home stretch of the regular season.
Now teams around the league will have to pay a little more attention and respect to the team.
The Hurricanes appear to be doing just that as they just made a move that directly hurts the team.
They did this by signing one of their prospects, Blake Biondi, to an amateur tryout contract with their AHL affiliate, the Chicago Wolves.
The move is controversial, akin to signing a player to an offer-sheet, but the Canadiens did have four years to sign Biondi if they wanted to.
Biondi was a 4th round draft pick of the Canadiens in 2020 after he put up 76 points in just 25 games at the high-school level in Minnesota.
This season he played for Notre Dame in the NCAA where he put up 12 goals and 27 points in 38 games.
