Leon Draisaitl is key to the Edmonton Oilers success, but now, he finds himself sidelined day-to-day and is doubtful for the teams next game with an unfortunately timed injury.
The Edmonton Oilers are cruising into the Stanley Cup Playoffs, currently sitting second in the Pacific Division, and after making the Stanley Cup Finals in 2024, they've got just one goal this season.
While there's still some issues in net and on the blue line for Edmonton this season, the Oilers have enough talent to overcome, but if they have an injury, that could change absolutely everything.
Unfortunately, that's what has now been revealed by insider Elliotte Friedman, who notes that superstar forward Leon Draisaitl is considered day-to-day and is officially considered doubtful for their clash with the Winnipeg Jets.
It wasn't revealed exactly what the injury was, and if its a minor one that will only cause him to miss a game or two, there won't be any issue, but with the Stanley Cup Playoffs less than a month away, there has to be worry within the organization.
In 68 games played this season, Draisaitl has put himself in the Hart Trophy conversation with 49 goals and 101 points, but if he's out for any extended time, he's likely to fall out of that race in favour of
Nikita Kucherov or
Nathan MacKinnon.
Although this is a major blow for Edmonton, they've also seen
Evander Kane take the ice once more, suggesting that he'll be back before the end of the regular season, but for now and the next few days, there's no doubting that Draisaitl's injury will be the biggest story and the biggest worry of those in Edmonton.
