New Reports Suggest the Calgary Flames are Planning Shocking Moves this Summer
The Calgary Flames could look very different this summer according to an update from team reporter Pat Steinberg.
As things stand today, the Flames are just outside the playoffs with 73 points through 67 games.
They are behind the Vancouver Canucks and St. Louis Blues who are tied for the last wild-card spot with 75 points each and the Minnesota Wild, who hold the top spot with 81 points.
Luckily for Calgary, they do have at least one game in hand on all three clubs, making their hopes for the playoffs slightly more realistic.
That being said, the organization came into this season with limited expectations and as such they were relatively quite at the trade deadline.
Furthermore, the team was reportedly eyeing
Bruins defender Brandon Carlo earlier this month, but they ultimately decided not to pull the trigger on that deal.
However, it does sound like more big moves could be coming for the club this summer.
Flames reporter Pat Steinberg noted today that there is a real possibility we see 'bigger names' in discussions once the playoffs have concluded.
"They've put themselves and continue to have themselves in the playoff race which is ahead of all expectationsinternally the Flames didn't expect to be here and quite where they are at this stage either. Conroy decided to send the right message to the room and not make any deadline moves, but that has never prohibited them re-evaluating and resetting in the summer. I think there is a decent chance they do just that I think yes there is a possibility of a reset and we do see a couple of bigger names moved or talked about moving in the summer time."
One player that could be on his way out is
Nazem Kadri, who was briefly in rumors earlier this season.
Kadri has four seasons left on his deal after this one and it comes with a 7 million dollar cap hit.
The 34-year-old has 24 goals and 50 points in 67 games this season, proving that he is still an effective player.
He is a proven winner as part of the 2022 Stanley Cup winning Colorado Avalanche as well and with nearly 1000 games of regular-season experience, there is bound to be plenty of interest in him if he is made available this summer.
