The Carolina Hurricanes have gone through plenty of change this year, and now Sebastian Aho has lifted the lid on the short run with Mikko Rantanen.

This season has been a whirlwind for the Carolina Hurricanes, and while there's been much said about what happened by Mikko Rantanen and Eric Tulsky, players in Carolina haven't said much.
Until now that is, as Finnish teammate Sebastian Aho has lifted the lid on Rantanen's time in Carolina in an interview, stating that it effected both players having so much uncertainty in the air.
»It affected me and I can imagine it also affected Mikko's play. We talked about it a lot with Mikko, how this is certainly not the easiest possible situation. There was a lot of uncertainty about the future in the air.»

One other interesting note from Aho was that he confirmed speculation that the players were trying too hard to fit Rantanen into their situation,
»Of course I would've hoped that everything would have started rolling since first day on, but sometimes that stuff takes time. I guess we both ended up trying to squeeze too hard. At least for myself I can say that my play got full of over-trying.»
Given the long-term relationship that Aho and Rantanen have had, unsurprisingly, he was upset that things didn't work out, but given all that happened, it didn't come as a surprise to anyone.
»I would be lying if I said that I didn't want Mikko to stay.

To me he's a good friend and an incredible player. But I was very aware of the situation. We talked about many things outside the ice.»

The final note from the interview with Aho was that he admits this was likely the best thing for Mikko and the 'Canes, as it allowed a fresh start for both while also confirming the duo remain tight friends and the drama never made it to the locker room.
»Maybe this was the correct decision for both parties in the end. Mikko got the noise off his mind and went to a good team. And all this surrounding big drama, it never appeared between the two of us at any point. We are still friends.»

Given the friendship and the chemistry, this would have been a fantastic duo in the NHL long-term if things worked out, but ultimately it simply didn't happen like that, but it appears there was no drama between players before this all played out with Rantanen ending up in Dallas.
