Former Canucks Player Sends a Warning to Brock Boeser as He Approaches Free Agency
Former Canucks forward Jannik Hansen had some strong words for Brock Boeser today as he remains engaged in contract negotiations with the team.
Brock Boeser has avoided much of the drama surrounding the Canucks at large this season, but as a pending free agent this summer, there have been plenty of rumors about him too.
The right-winger has 20 goals and 41 points in 61 games for the team this year as he has proven to be a steady and consistent producer, even if his scoring rate is down slightly from last year.
This lead to a situation where the Canucks could have traded him at the deadline earlier this month.
As such, the organization will continue to be embroiled in contract negotiations either until they reach an agreement or July 1st comes along and he signs elsewhere.
But former Canuck Jannik Hansen believes the team has already offered him too much, saying that he can't create offense on his own, and relies on his teammates to get him pucks in areas where he can score.
Hansen argues that this kind of player is not deserving of an eight-million dollar cap hit, suggesting that he should take the offer the Canucks have already given him.
"He's invisible, and that's the problem. He doesn't create things himself. So unless somebody does it for him, nothing happens. It almost dies on his stick. If you cannot tilt the ice when you're on there, if you cannot make your two line mates better, don't do dare ask for 8 million, like ask for six, ask for six and a half, seven, and then be a supporting player."
That being said, there is some value in what Boeser brings to the club just as a person and teammate.
He is one of the more popular players on the team and is a good friend of captain
Quinn Hughes, who spoke highly of him after last night's win over Edmonton.
