Projected 2026 top NHL draft pick Gavin McKenna reveals which team he wants to be drafted by

The future of the NHL has been proven to be incredibly bright, and with the likes of Matthew Schaefer, Macklin Celebrini, and Connor Bedard taking over the league, it's clear that the No. 1 overall pick is still the best spot to land a superstar.

This season, there are a few contenders for that spot, and while the likes of Keaton Verhoff and Ivar Stenberg are putting a case forward, it's Gavin McKenna that many believe will be the No. 1 pick.

McKenna, the native of Whitehorse, is a superstar of the future, and while he now plays with Penn State in the NCAA, he once played for the Medicine Hat Tigers of the Western Hockey League.

Unsurprisingly, then, a recent report has revealed that McKenna would like to stay close to home, and given the teams that will be near the No. 1 overall draft pick, he has made it clear he wants to be a Calgary Flame.

In 17 games for Penn State this season, McKenna has tallied 4 goals and 18 points, and while he hasn't been dominating the way people had hoped when he departed the WHL, he was fantastic at the World Juniors, showing all the signs of a true No. 1 overall pick.

Ultimately, though, if he wants to end up in Calgary, the Flames will need luck to be on their side, but if they can land McKenna, he will immediately become one of the most exciting prospects the team has ever had.
