Insider names three frontrunners for Nazem Kadri ahead of trade deadline

The Calgary Flames entered the 2025/26 season with little hope, and given how bad things have gone for the organization, it's no surprise that they've now begun looking towards the future.

They've already traded Rasmus Andersson, and as of right now, it appears to be a matter of when, not if they deal Blake Coleman and Nazem Kadri, with Mackenzie Weegar's name also floating out there in trade speculation.

With a $7 million cap hit long-term, it's hard to see many teams wanting to give up an amazing amount for Kadri, but after scoring two goals on Thursday, he's up to 41 points in 59 games this season, and given his intensity and his ability to rise to the big moment, there's plenty of playoff teams that would give up a lot to land him.

He's been linked to a move back to Colorado with whom he won the Stanley Cup, but now, Nick Kypreos has named the three front runners for Kadri, with upwards of six teams actively talking with the Flames to get a deal done.

Those three teams all need centre help, especially at the 2C position, as Kypreos names Dallas, Carolina and Montreal as the three teams that could be chasing Kadri the hardest.

Ultimately, there will likely be a Kadri trade in the coming days, and while the return won't be jaw dropping, the Flames need to build for the future, so moving him to one of these three contenders makes perfect sense.
