Hockey Canada forced to release official statement after stunning Wayne Gretzky rumour
On Thursday, former NHLer Mike Commodore make a ridiculous accusation against Team Canada snubbing Wayne Gretzky, and now they've released a statement.
The 2026 Olympic Games featured two of the best hockey tournaments we've ever seen, and with the United States taking on Team Canada in the Gold Medal Game in both tournaments, things got incredibly spicy both on and off the ice with everyone involved.
Adding to the drama after the event was former NHLer Mike Commodore, who started a ridiculous rumour on Thursday that the team denied Wayne Gretzky access to the mens locker room ahead of the Gold Medal Game.
That was quickly shut down by NHL Insider Chris Johnston, who revealed that Commodore's story was '100% untrue', but given the tensions with Gretzky and Canada, many ran with the story on social media to garner attention.
Hockey Canada deny fabricated story
Then, things got so bad when Spittin' Chiclets host Ryan Whitney addressed it on X, calling for whoever made that decision to resign in disgrace immediately, and in the replies was Hockey Canada's official account, who categorically denied any part of this story was true.
As a result, many are incredibly confused as to why this became a story in the first place, as Gretzky reportedly never even requested the opportunity to speak with the team in the locker room.
Had he of asked, there was a chance that Hockey Canada would have said no, but as of right now, none of this ever happened, and while it was a ridiculous report to begin with, now, straight from the horses mouth, it has been denied.
