The Rasmus Andersson trade saga has now come to an end, with him being sent to the Las Vegas Golden Knights.

It has been a year of big defensive moves; Montreal acquiring Noah Dobson in the summer and extending him for eight years, Minnesota acquiring Quinn Hughes with the risk of him not re-signing; Andersson falling closer to the second, with no extension being part of this deal.
The return, per Elliotte Friedman, is quite big -
Zach Whitecloud, a steady and physical defensive defenseman, a first-round pick in 2027, and a conditional second-round pick in 2027 that will become a first if Vegas wins the Stanley Cup this year.
Calgary currently owns Vegas' 2026 first round pick from the Noah Hanifin trade, and may give it back in this deal.
The deal will also include prospect Abram Weibe.
A reported deal with the Boston Bruins fell through over the last 48 hours due to Andersson not signing an extension. Vegas' tolerance for risk was the key element to them pulling this off.
Boston was even given permission to negotiate - a luxury that Vegas wasn't allotted:
The Flames likely wanted Andersson in the east - further away from them, and less likely in a possible playoff matchup (barring a cup run). The return from Vegas, however, was just too good to pass up.
More to come.
