NHL Insider Leaks Chicago Blackhawks' Surprising Contract Offer to Star Ryan Donato
The Chicago Blackhawks are reportedly looking to re-sign veteran forward Ryan Donato before July first.
Ryan Donato is in his eight year in the NHL and he is closing in on 500 career games played.
He has never been a big scorer though until this season as he is now on 29 goals and 59 points through 71 games.
Still though, Kyle Davidson and the Blackhawks have been impressed with Donato's play this season, and they have reportedly even offered him the largest contract of his career so far.
According to the Athletic's Scott Powers, Donato was offered a three-year 4 million dollar AAV deal before the trade deadline.
"Donato is sitting on a three-year, $4 million contract offer from the Blackhawks. The Blackhawks are hopeful that Donato recognizes the opportunity he's getting with them in a top-six role, and the top power-play unit likely wouldn't be handed to him on most teams, especially Stanley Cup contenders."
Powers did also link Donato to the Boston Bruins in free agency should he elect to not re-sign with Chicago.
"The one team that could intrigue Donato if he hits free agency is the Boston Bruins. He grew up in the area. The Bruins have fallen off this season, but they still have some pieces."
The Bruins likely would not be offering Donato the same kind of money or term Chicago has, but they would certainly have a better chance to compete for the playoffs.
Either way, the 28-year-old is in for the biggest payday of his career, so be sure to stay tuned to see where he ends up and for how much money.
