Fans Call for Panthers' Niko Mikkola to Be Suspended After Classless Actions at the End of the Game

The Canadiens won another critical game today as they visited the Panthers in Florida.

The team has been right on the edge of the playoff line for the past few weeks and the win has given them just the slightest bit of breathing room as they are tied with the Rangers at 77 points, but they have one game in hand on New York.

Coming into the season few expected the team to be a serious playoff contender but their strong second half has gotten them into this position.

There have been setbacks as one might expect from a young, relatively inexperienced team, but they have proven that they can do it. Now it is just a matter of if they will.

With all of that being said, today's game against the Panthers ended in dramatic fashion as they secured the two points.

After the final buzzer, Panthers defenseman Niko Mikkola took a slapshot from his own end, sending the puck flying down the ice towards Canadiens players.

Understandably, Habs fans were not happy about this. Many called the team out for being dirty while others called them sore losers.

One fan even went so far as to call for Mikkola to be suspended as the play was legitimately dangerous as unsuspecting Canadiens players at the other end of the ice could have been struck by the puck.

Luckily, that did not happen and no one was injured on the play. Still though, this is not acceptable behavior from NHL players.

While a suspension may be a bit unlikely, there is a very real chance the NHL's Department of Player Safety could hand the Finish blueliner a fine for unsportsmanlike conduct.
