Boston Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy has gone after the NHL Department of Player Safety after there was no discipline for a controversial hit he suffered recently against the divisional foe Florida Panthers.
Once again, the National Hockey League Department of Player Safety led by former enforcer George Parros has come under heavy fire after a controversial hit against Boston Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy has gone unpunished.
During a recent game between the Bruins and the divisional foe Florida Panthers, McAvoy was hit by Florida's Sandis Vilmanis.
It was later revealed that there would be no supplemental discipline for Villains, drawing outrage.
Now, McAvoy himself is targeting the NHL Department of Player Safety for their failure to address another controversial headshot. He posted a slow motion video of the incident in which the elbow of Vilmanis clearly makes contact with his head on his X account along with a photo of his swollen face:
McAvoy was somehow able to finish the game and at least temporarily put fears about his status for Team USA in the upcoming Olympics on hold.
Bruins Coach Marco Sturm Blasted The Officials After The Controversial Incident
Bruins head coach Marco Sturm was furious about the incident and was sure to let the officials know after the game.
It was a brutal hit. And everyone saw it. Obviously, I have the opportunity to look at the replay, too, and to come out with a four-on-four like that. I just didn’t understand it. That’s all.
I’m here to protect my guys, especially Charlie. And if you target his head, which was clear to see, that just pisses me off. - Marco Sturm

McAvoy has 39 points (4G, 35A) in 45 games this year for the Bruins.
