Per a new report from NHL analyst Nick Kypreos, the Toronto Maple Leafs are allegedly ready to veto trades that could affect future postseason appearances.

As the NHL has now shifted into a three week break for the Olympics, the Toronto Maple Leafs would miss the Stanley Cup Playoffs if they began today.
Even though they've put together a modest multi-game winning streak, they're still six points behind the divisional foe Boston Bruins for the final Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference.
There have been plenty of rumours surrounding the franchise about potential trades, but per a new report from NHL analyst Nick Kypreos, the bosses of Leafs general manager Brad Treliving could veto major trades that would potentially threaten future playoff appearances.
Nick Kypreos: Leafs GM Brad Treliving will continue to entertain calls...but there is a strong sense that Rogers, now the majority owner of the Leafs, has no appetite for making major changes that would jeopardize playoff participation for consecutive years - Toronto Star (2/5)
Those with louder and more powerful voices will have the final say, and while fans are screaming for reconstructive surgery rather than a minimally-invasive procedure, missing the playoffs this season and next season is not an option for MLSE or Rogers. - Nick Kypreos

The trade deadline is March 6.

The Maple Leafs Would Miss The Playoffs If They Started Today

The Maple Leafs are six points back of the divisional foe Boston Bruins for the final Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference, and would miss the playoffs if they started today.
If the Leafs end up not making the playoffs, it would be the first time since 2016, which was just months before they took future captain Auston Matthews with the first overall pick in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.
